Felix Holton | Music / Performing Arts

My name is Felix Holton. I am a drummer, student and sociable teenager, with the dream to become a successful professional musician.

I began playing drums seriously at the age of nine, after a couple of years of continuously tapping and driving my parents crazy. Throughout these nine years I’ve been very fortunate to be able to play in a wide range of settings including school based groups and performances, competitions such as Smokefree Rockquest (2014, 2016, 2017) and also self-organized gigs and busking sessions.

Cambridge High School is the school I attend and where I have made it a priority to grasp every opportunity that has been on offer. From jazz and production bands to leadership roles such as Deputy Head Boy and the Student Executive, I have loved my time there.

I have recently auditioned for a place in the Bachelor of Commercial Music degree at Massey University in Wellington. If accepted, I will strive to complete the degree to the best of my abilities, as well as making the most of any opportunities that arise during this three year period.

My other interests include teaching drums to a wide range of students of any age or ability (I currently teach four students). It gives me a great sense of fulfillment knowing that a student of mine is thoroughly enjoying learning something new, or when I am able to help them push through a challenging task and feeling the reward when they crack it. I also enjoy my part time work in the hospitality industry, as this gives me the opportunity to work with others and meet new people.

I am grateful to the Adastra Foundation for considering my application.
