Andrew Wilson | Sport

Hi, I’m Andrew Wilson 18 years old and finishing year 13 at Hamilton Boys High School. I began trap shooting at 11 years old and quickly developed a love for the sport. In 2018 as a year 11, I won the New Zealand Secondary School 2 day high Gun the pinnacle of secondary school shooting. I have continued to build on this winning the New Zealand Junior Single rise event at the 2019 open nationals where I qualified for my first New Zealand Junior team, Making both the Macintosh team and the Oceania team. I remember a quote from a sports prizegiving stating “Sucess without service is arrogance” Service is one of the values, my family encourage and have modelled to me. I have always been the first to help prepare for local events and will be found packing up afterwards regardless of whether I have won an individual or teams event. I aim to prepare the best I can for events and look for opportunities to improve my own ability to master the controllable elements of my sport. this year in March I qualified for the NZ junior world team which was to travel to the UK until COVID struck. I believe in hard work and as well as passing NCEA level 3, I work part time in between weekend competition.
