Briar Burnett-Grant | Sport

My name is Briar Burnett-Grant and I compete in the sport of showjumping. I have been competing since I was 8 years old, starting off on ponies and then moving to horses when I was 14 years old. I currently have a team of 5 horses for this coming season 2017/2018. I love riding all types of horses and the challenges they present. Showjumping is an exciting sport where having a strong bond with the horse you are riding is so important. I have been fortunate to have competed for New Zealand in Mexico, Australia, Korea and China winning four events, a bronze medal and coming 5th individually in the World.
In the showjumping season I compete most weekends or I train my horses at home. I currently train with Jeff McVean so travel my team to Cambridge for showjumping lessons. I also have flatwork training with Jock Paget as I have a couple of young horses that will be competing this coming season for the first time.
I love the thrill of competition and seeing my horses develop to jump around the bigger tracks.
I have been very fortunate to have some amazing sponsors such as Fiber Fresh, Stirrups Equestrian & Betavet. To compete at the top level internationally you have to have amazing horses so we have been breeding horses with the best bloodlines in the world for the past 5 years. We imported 4 well bred mares from Germany and Sweden and used the top sires in the showjumping world. Using surrogate mares we now have 5 offspring. I will be competing our first four year old this season.
