Brooke Somerfield | Sport

Hi! My name is Brooke Somerfield, I’m 22 years old and I live in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty. I’m a 100m and 200m track sprinter. I train 6 days per week, with my coach Kerry Hill, and I work about 20 hours per week at Aspire Health & Sports doing reception work. The time I have away from the track and work is usually spent with my family and friends.
I began athletics at the age of 5 when my parents joined me with the Greerton Children’s Athletics Club. I quickly became very passionate about the sport and the opportunities that arose. With the support and encouragement of my parents we travelled around the country to compete every summer, and I made my first New Zealand team in 2014 for the Oceania Track and Field Championships. Since then I have made 4 more New Zealand Representative Teams with the highlights being the 2016 World Junior Championships in Poland, and the 2019 World University Games in Italy. My next short-tern goals are to qualify for the 2021 World University Games in China, and the 2021 World Championships in Oregon.
