Charlisse Leger-Walker – Bio.

Charlisse Leger-Walker, 16 year old up and coming basketball player.
Charlisse represents her school, province and country and has amassed a number of significant achievements already. This year she was invited to trial for the Tall Ferns, the national women’s basketball team. She was selected as a non-travelling reserve in this squad. Also in 2017, she has played for the NZ U17 women’s team, in Guam at the FIBA Oceania Qualification tournament. Leading her team against Australia and other pacific nations to a silver medal, ensuring a berth in the FIBA Asia qualifiers in 2018. She was named in the All Star 5 at this tournament. She is also a key member of the NZ U16 women’s team, competing in the FIBA Asia qualifiers in India in October, aiming for World Championship qualification in 2018.
Nationally Charlisse played for the Waikato Women’s basketball team in the National Women’s Basketball Championship (WBC); this is the senior women’s grade. She finished the regular season as the highest points scorer overall and was named in the All Star 5 of this competition, the youngest ever at 15. She was also awarded the Junior Player of the Year for the WBC competition (2017), and honoured by Basketball New Zealand in their recent awards, as Junior Player of the 2016 season. She also represented Waikato at the Under 19 and Under 23 levels. Both teams won gold and Charlisse was MVP (most valuable player) at both tournaments.
Charlisse led St Peters, to a national 3×3 championship in March, and is planning on leading them to a three-peat at the NZSS AA National (5 aside) finals in October.
She has her sights set on Tall Fern Representation in the near future, a scholarship to study and play basketball in America, when she finishes secondary school and maybe to play in the WNBA or professional leagues in Europe.
