Hayden Wilde: 19 years of age
Hayden grew up in Whakatane, discovering he had a natural talent for running, cycling and pretty much
anything he turned his hand to athletically. He loves hard work but wants to train smarter.
Ultimately he wants to compete against the best. He is already a two times Age Group World Champion at
Xterra and has won the 2 day Coast to Coast at only 16 years of age – the youngest in the history of the
event.
To pursue his dreams of representing New Zealand on the world stage Hayden moved to Tauranga in 2016 and is
now training with Liz van Welie Aquatics for his swimming and coached by Craig Kirkwood for his cycling and
running.
During 2017 Hayden has seen significant improvement in his swim times and consistently posts the fastest bike and run splits in almost every event he competes in. At a recent event in Japan, the media reported that when Hayden get’s his swimming up to speed we’re all finished.
NZ Commonwealth Games Triathlon Relay team is now a possibility but the eyes are firmly set on Tokyo Olympics 2020
