2018My Name is Jonas Tawharu and I am a New Zealand Representative For Surfing, Currently in the NZ Junior team headed for the world junior championships of surfing in
Japan. I am 18 years old and I grew up in Mount Maunganui. This is my first year out of high school , Mount Maunganui College. I worked really hard at school and proceeded to get excellence marks in Physics, Calculus and Biology. I was top in the year 2016 year 13 Sport Science. I had a scholarship to study at University But choose to take a gap year and pursue My talents for competitive surfing. I won the NAtionals U18 in January and then Moved to Australia where I competed on the elite WSL professional junior circuit doing a few events on the east coast around the gold coast and sydney. I have recently been at home training for the world junior champs in japan. Next year I am looking at competing at an even higher level on the WQS tour through Australia and Europe. These events have way bigger significance with associated bigger costs . But my plan is to compete on that level and try collect some results on the intentional stage. I have represented New Zealand for 4 consecutive years traveling to Equador, California and Portugal where I was the highest placed kiwi in the world junior champs. I have plans to study at university but I really want to push my performance in surfing as far as I can . This means getting to these contests next year and building my international profile on that professional stage.
