Lachlan Haycock | Sport
2021My name is Lachlan Haycock and I am a 20 years old adventure-loving boy from Tauranga. I have lived in Tauranga my whole life, where my parents always encouraged both myself and my older brother to be active and try as many sports as possible. Because of this, I spent the majority of my childhood trying out all sorts of different sports to see what I enjoyed the most.
At the age of 15, I competed in my first triathlon and instantly found a passion for it. Coming from a running and cycling background, I seemed to have a natural talent for racing, however, majorly lacked swim training. Picking up swimming has been one of my biggest sporting challenges ever, however, I am proud to say that swimming is now becoming one of my biggest strengths.
I now compete internationally in Triathlon, where I have raced in two World Champs, multiple Continental Cups and an Elite World Cup. I aim to keep improving and progressing through the elite world rankings to achieve my dream goal to race at the Olympics.
Outside of triathlon, I am part of the privileged group of students that get to study out of the new Tauranga Campus for the University of Waikato. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Health, Sport and Human Performance, majoring in Human Performance and Psychology. I am studying this degree as I am interested to learn how our mind can play a huge role in our sporting performance.
