Liam Moffatt | Sport

My name is Liam Moffatt and I am currently a year 12 student at Tauranga Boys College. I am a very passionate sportsman and enjoy being outdoors and active. Over the years I have been actively involved in a wide range of sports to a high level but have recently become focused on water polo where I have been a part of the born 2000 New Zealand age group team for the last three years.
I have recently returned from a 3-week international tour of Montenegro with the Born 2000 team, and was proud to have been selected as team co-captain for the tour of one of the hot beds of international water polo. Previously I have been part of the Born 2000 NZ team that took on the Australians in the 2016 Trans-Tasman test series in Auckland and an earlier tour to Australia in 2015.
As well as my success with selection for National water polo teams, I have also been a member of the local Tauranga water polo club since I was 11 years old, and am happy to have been involved with a number of successful national and international (Pan-Pacific) age group campaigns most recently representing Tauranga at the inaugural U21 National Championships and backing up with a bronze medal at the U18 National Championships. I have also been proud to be part of the Tauranga Boys College “Senior A” water polo team since I started there as a year 9 student.
Looking forward, New Zealand Water Polo have identified the under 18 youth world championships in Hungary as the target event for the Born 2000 team next year. While I first need to maintain my position in the traveling team for this event I also hope to attain a leadership role for the campaign. Beyond 2018 I am looking forward to earning a place in future New Zealand age group teams, and ultimately competing with the New Zealand open men’s team which is aiming to qualify for the 2020 and 2024 Olympic games, and competing in the 2020 & 2022 World cups.
