Sylvester Green | Music / Performing Arts

Playing trumpet is my passion, and my goal is to be able to use the trumpet and music as a tool to communicate, inspire and develop.
I aim to centre myself in the jazz idiom as it has both a very large breadth, and is open to and promotes a different level of musicality and connection.
My musical journey began with my dad marching to band music, carrying my young self. After short forays with violin and the school choir, I then fell in love with the trumpet. Lessons on the Piano followed and guided me to completing Performance Examinations through NZMEB for trumpet and piano. I now had my grades.
I have benefitted from a range of coaching, workshop and masterclass opportunities in recent years such as the Future Student Workshops run through the NZ Jazz Foundation, playing under the guidance of several NZSM lecturers, including Rodger Fox.
When I am not playing my trumpet I may be found cycling, running, or spending time with family and friends.
