Kia Ora, My name is Tegan. From a young age I have been extremely active, involving myself in a wide variety of sports such as soccer, netball, motocross, dance, and hockey. Four years ago I went to a ‘learn to row workshop’ and I have been hooked on Rowing ever since. I thrive in the challenges that rowing has to offer, both physically and mentally.
When most of us are considering getting out of bed you will find me out on the water doing the thing I love the most, rowing either on Lake Rotorua or Lake Karapiro. I have rowed out of the Rotorua Rowing Club for the past 3 seasons and have recently been offered the opportunity to row at the Waikato Rowing Club for the 2024/25 season, where I will be training with some of the top rowers in the country on Lake Karapiro.
Currently, I am ranked in the top 10 in New Zealand for the Senior Women’s single scull class. My highest achievement with rowing to date is placing 4th in the U18 single sculls at the Aon Maadi Cup in March 2024. From this result I earned myself a spot to trial for the New Zealand U19 team, along with only 7 other U19 scullers from around New Zealand. I narrowly missed out on this selection but was given the opportunity to trial for the World Coastal Rowing Championship in Italy, competing in two disciplines – Beach Sprints and Endurance Racing. I was successful in gaining a place to represent New Zealand at this event.
Placing 9th in the world in the Open Woman’s quadruple sculls, and 1st in the B final of the open woman’s double sculls in the endurance event. Additionally placing 5th in the world for the U19 World Beach Sprints championships.
I have also been recognised by Rowing NZ for her commitment and achievements in Rowing and is currently in the RNZ Pathway Program for upcoming athletes.
After high school, I am looking to gain a spot in the Under 21 squad 2025, to represent New Zealand at the World Championships before continuing my athletic and academic dreams at a division one university in America on a rowing scholarship.
