Emily Ussher | Sport
2018Kia Ora,
My name is Emily Ussher, I’m from a small farming community called Ohinewai just outside of Huntly. I go to Huntly College and have done so for my whole secondary education, and in my last year I am honoured to have the role of Head Girl. This has been a huge learning experience and I have grown in both my leadership ability but also as the person I am. I also believe that this has transferred into my sporting code which is Netball. I play for the Senior team and Huntly College and have been the Captain for the last 4 years, I also play for a club team called Kia Ora. Both of these netball teams have given me the opportunity to grow as a player and are the reason that I am the player I am today. This year I was also a member of the Eastern Waikato Under 17 Netball team, and this year we placed 7th at the 2017 Under 17 New Zealand Netball Nationals tournament. I have attend this tournament twice and both times I was recognised in the tournament team, which is an accomplishment I am proud of. Furthermore I am also currently apart of the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Level 2 Performance squad. Being involved within these squads have helped me to not only build on my skills but has given me the opportunity to play alongside other talented players, and also learn through the experience of playing. Through the sport of Netball I believe I have shaped into a humble and determined person, with a team player mindset all whilst showing sportsmanship on and off the court. I am thankful for all the support I have been given throughout my netball experience so far and I hope to one day be wearing a Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic netball dress, and even further it would be an honour to represent New Zealand in the black dress one day!!!
