Who would have thought that a girl who cried the entire time at her first swimming competition at 6 years old would still be swimming and now a multiple New Zealand Age Group record holder, definitely not me! I started my journey as a competitive swimmer at 6 years old and now at 19 years old I am still going and loving it more than ever.
You will often find me at the pool wearing my new green croc sandals which I have dubbed the ‘Birkencrocs’ and dancing in front of the camera before my races. I like to keep things fun before I race but as soon as that whistle to get on the starting blocks is blown it’s go time.
Over the next year I am hoping to take my swimming back to the world stage since 2018 by qualifying for the 2022 World Long Course Swimming Championships in Fukuoka in the 400m Individual Medley. I am also hoping to be an outside shot for swimming at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham so I’m working hard in training and keeping everything crossed!
I have gotten so much out of swimming that it is only right I give back in some way. I am a nationally qualified Inspector of turns, recently officiating at the New Zealand Age Group Championships, and I am currently working towards my regional starter qualification. I am also a learn to swim instructor teaching 3 months olds to 12 years olds.
