Shaun Gwillim | Sport
2021Hi, I’m Shaun Gwillim I am 18 years old and I compete in clay target shooting, specialising in the skeet discipline. I have spent my whole life in Tauranga and grew up enjoying football, swimming, athletics, basketball and rugby. When I started Tauranga Boys College in 2015 I saw one of the sports offered was clay target shooting and decided to give it a go. Little did I know this would lead me on a journey all over New Zealand and also to Australia competing both at school and open competitions and experiencing both success and failure over this time.
I enjoy clay target shooting as it allows you to compete against anyone as whilst there are junior divisions most competitions are shot in grades which means you compete against people of the same ability regardless of their age or gender. Clay target shooting has taught me to be focused; to learn from failure and that there is always room for improvement and learning in the sport.
When I am not competing I enjoy hunting and fishing and I am also currently employed as a building apprentice with a local Tauranga building company.
