My name is Tatiana Kaumoana, I am 17 years old and I have just come back from the Youth Commonwealth Games in the Bahamas where I proudly represented New Zealand in the U18 Women’s discus where I was able to bring home the silver medal! I have been playing a variety of sports ever since I was very young, but over the past 3 years have begun to solely focus on my Athletics. I am a very dedicated, motivated and competitive person, which I have found to be really helpful to me with my athletics, as I am always self-motivated and driven to train hard and achieve all of my set goals. Making the team for the Youth Commonwealth’s was huge for my Family and myself, as this is something that we had been working hard at for over 7 years of Athletics and is an opportunity that I took very graciously, making the absolute most of the time I had over in the Bahamas to meet lots of new people, take in the wonderful experience of competing in a world-class environment and do the very best I could! Family is the most important thing in the world to me! None of my sporting and schooling success would be possible without the amazing support of my family and for that, I am truly grateful! My passion and love for discus is huge and I spend so much of my spare time training for discus that it has become part of my daily routine. I always aim for excellence in my school work as well as with my sport, gaining my level 1, 2 and well on my way to gaining my level 3 excellence endorsements, which I then hope to go on to being accepted into my chosen subject at one of my chosen Universities. I always know what I am aiming for, whether it be with sports or school and am very organized and extremely self-motivated to be able to ensure that I do achieve these goals. My dream is to be able to represent my family and country with pride at the Olympic Games, where I aim to win a gold medal in the Women’s Discus.

Kia ora, my name is Tatiana Kaumoana, I’m 23 years old and and I am a discus thrower from Te Aroha.
I grew up in Te Aroha with my parents and two younger brothers, who have also excelled in sport, which has meant we have always been super competitive at home and I like to think this has made us all better athletes. My family have been the biggest and best support system and I am so grateful to have them and their constant encouragement. Having a strong support system is so important and I like to think I have one of the best ones out.
I have always been extremely active and involved in all kinds of team sports, including still being heavily involved in basketball, but began my journey in track and field when I was 9 years old. Since then, I have become a multiple time National Champion through the age groups and am the current Senior Women’s National Champion.
After finishing High School in Te Aroha, I moved to Christchurch for 5 years for athletics and University. I graduated with a Bachelor of Medical Imaging and have been working full time as a Radiographer since December 2020. As of January, I have moved to Mount Maunganui where I am now living, working and training for discus full time.
I am very excited for the next few years ahead and to make some big things happen with discus around the world.
