2022TANNER FAMILY
I was born and raised in a small rural community of Maramarua located in the north Waikato, I have always had a passion for sports. From a young age, I was involved in multiple sports such as golf, BMX, hockey, rugby, swimming, triathlon and athletics just to name a few. Although I have excelled at all sports, my serious passion lies within hockey and I would like to pursue my dream of becoming a Blackstick with my immediate ambition of selection into the high performance pathway and ultimately representing New Zealand at an Olympic games. Like many other athletes, I am a extremely hard worker, both on and off the field. I have been apart of multiple rep and regional teams such as Waikato u15s & u18s, member of Hamilton Boys High School first 11 from 2018-2021 (playing over 110 games) as well as captaining the side in my senior years (2020 as a yr12 student) and (2021 as a yr13 student). In 2019 I was selected into the regional u18s Midlands men team where I was a 15 year old attending the national tournament making me the youngest player to ever represent midlands hockey. Recently I have been selected for the NZ Under 18 men’s camp that was picked based off performances at the national under 18 tournament earlier in 2021 where I represented Waikato. Not only do I have a strong passion for sport, but my studies have always been my priority. I have achieved NCEA L1 and L2 with Merit endorsement, and am well on track to achieve Merit in L3 also. Next year, I will be studying Sports Science and Human Performance which includes, biomechanics, well-being and all areas of sport. PE is a topic that I have taken a strong liking to and have excelled at in the last couple of years at school. Through this, some career pathways that appeal to me from having this qualification are coaching roles, trainer, PE teacher. While growing up my parents and family have been very supportive no matter what sport I was participating in. I encourage all young athletes to have a dream and a favourite athlete as it is a huge motivating factor to help yourself become the best person you can be on the sports field and in life. As my dad always said “go hard or go home”, I encourage you all to do what you love with passion and have no regrets.
