Kia ora! My name is Jordyn-Leigh, and I am a proud young Māori woman with an unwavering passion for sports. Born and raised in Aotearoa, the land of the long white cloud, I have always been deeply connected to the rich sporting heritage and cultural traditions that surround me.
From a young age, I discovered my love for sports, and it has been an integral part of my life ever since. While I appreciate various athletic endeavours, my heart truly belongs to team sports, with a special place reserved for Netball and Rugby/League. These sports, with their unique challenges and camaraderie, have allowed me to thrive as an athlete and to forge lasting bonds with teammates.
Netball, with its lightning-quick plays and strategic brilliance, has been a constant source of inspiration. Whether I’m on the court executing precision passes or leaping for a crucial intercept, I relish every moment of the game. The rush of adrenaline, the teamwork, and the sweet taste of victory have fueled my determination to excel in this sport.
Rugby League, on the other hand, has introduced me to the grit and physicality that make it such a thrilling endeavour. As a player in the heart of the action, I have learned the importance of resilience and tenacity on the field. The camaraderie among teammates, the roar of the crowd, and the thrill of a perfectly executed tackle are experiences I cherish.
Beyond my passion for sports, I am also deeply committed to my Māori heritage. My culture’s values of unity, respect, and whānau (family) play a significant role in shaping who I am as both an athlete and an individual. I am honoured to represent my culture on the sporting stage, and I strive to be a positive role model for young Māori, encouraging them to pursue their dreams and aspirations.
As I continue my journey in the world of sports, I am excited to see where my dedication and hard work will lead me. Whether on the court or field, I am committed to pushing my limits, learning from every experience, and sharing the joy of sports with others. With a heart full of passion and a determination to make a difference, I look forward to the many adventures that lie ahead in my sporting career.
