Rohm Dixon | Music / Performing Arts

Tēnā koe! Ko Rohm Dixon toku ingoa. I am a current year 13 student of Rotorua Boys’ High School of which I am honoured to have been appointed the Head Student for 2022. My Māori affiliation stems from Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu with Marae ties to both Moeraki and Te Taumutu. I am a creative, passionate and motivated learner. I look forward to further developing my academic knowledge in a tertiary environment. My sociable personality allows me to easily share my innovation and imaginative power with others, this helps the groups that I am involved with work collectively towards a common objective. I have been performing in Rotorua Boys’ High Schools annual productions for five years. These shows have become quite well known and bring up to 5,000 spectators in a season. During my experience performing under stage light I have always worked towards receiving a lead role. I am now proud to have accomplished this in my final year when getting the role ‘Usnavi’ in this year’s show ‘In The Heights’. I feel honoured to share my input as a part of the leadership team within this show and hope that my performance can inspire more students to express themselves on stage through performing arts. As well as stage productions, I have taken the opportunity to perform in various kapa haka rōpu, music performances and our school choir. I could say that stage performance is my favourite source of expression. Continuing this passion long after I leave high school is an utmost priority of which I look forward to the creative culture of a university environment.

An inspiring Kaiako of mine once told me a powerful whakatauki that I still fall back on to this day. “Koi kaheko te tuna”, translating to, “Don’t let the eel slip through your fingers”. I use this whakatauki as a daily reminder to grasp every single opportunity with two hands and never let them slip by. If followed I will live a busy life full of success, while on the expressway to self improvement.
